Problems with marking/notification

The thing is, some posts are not marked as read when you click on them. Even if you click on the letter with the red 1, it is not marked as read. Only after you click on the trash can. The “Mark all posts as read” button does not work in this case either. I encountered the same problem as the user below when using a test account with the same post. I don't have this problem with the same post on my Moodle admin account. However, I do have it with another post.

One user describes the problem as follows (German language):

Der Eintrag unter "Fragen und Antworten" mit dem Titel "Neue Freischaltung am letzten Freitag???"( 20.10.2025/17:17) bleibt bei mir auch nach dessen Aufruf mittels weißer 1 auf rotem Grund als offen gekennzeichnet. Auch wird in der Seite vor dem Board dauerhaft ein ungelesener Eintrag genannt.
 
Den gleichen Effekt hatte ich schon einmal im "Discussion Board" des Kapitels "XYZ". Dachte damals, ich hätte einen Fehler gemacht und habe das Problem für mich durch Anklicken des Lösch-Icons gelöst.

Here are screenshots of the posts. I suspect it has something to do with the comment function or with people deleting their comments before reading them. I haven't been able to test this more thoroughly yet.

I tested it with my accounts in a web browser (Opera GX) on my Windows computer. The user mentioned above has the problem on their Android device (I don't know yet whether it's the Moodle app or the browser). As soon as I have more information, I will get back to you. Thank you! :)

thank you for your detailed description! Indeed, the "mark all posts as read" button at the top does not work, only the bin works. The only thing i can not reproduce is the problem with the mail button. When clicking on the mail icon and going back in the browser it does not change but on a page reload it reloads the right amount of unread posts (which is 0 if you clicked on the mail button to read all unread posts).

The problem with deleting comments or "people deleting their comments before reading them" i can not reproduce either. I think that the mail icon is working correctly, but i am thinking that maybe the icon should not be "linkable" and just have an information value.

I will look into it 😄 !
