Description

Adding the possibility to federate instances using ActivityPub would be great, there's already a similar project to this one but for books (https://github.com/bookwyrm-social/bookwyrm) and in general it would be awesome if this could interact with Mastodon or Lemmy. I understand that this is probably something huge and that it will either not happen or take very long, but if at least makes it into some possible roadmap it would improve the application a lot and probably attract a few contributors.

Desired Behavior

That different instance can interact with each other and with other Fediverse software.

We talked about this before in the past and this is definitely a feature I would love to add (and a feature which perfectly matches this projects core philosophy of empowering the users), but like you said, this will be one of the more difficult/complex features to implement. So this will not come any time soon and I cannot promise that it will come at all, but I am very interested in adding this down the road.

Thanks a lot for considering it at least, and I know it's hard, but at least having an issue to keep track of this is a start. I hope this continues to progress and thank you for your hard work!

I'm definitely willing to implement this! The rise of the Fediverse has kind of excited me, and I would love it if Movary were to become a part of it.

However, as @leepeuker said, it's quite difficult and complicated, and additionally I would first like to have an actual, stable 1.0 released and the new frontend to be finished before embarking on this challenge.

That totally makes sense, I'll be looking forward for that and please keep this post updated when that starts to become a reality since I'm very much interested and I'm sure a whole lot of other people are, since I've met quite a few who have been looking for an alternative to Letterboxd that's libre and privacy respecting.
