I am not really knowledgeable about Travis or Docker, but I had a look at the causes of the current failing and I think it is happening because of a wrong directory name (in the Docker image, /home/build/sdk does not exist, /home/build/openwrt does) in the .travis.yml file.

As a parallel question, why is Travis disabled on PRs? https://travis-ci.org/libremesh/lime-packages/pull_requests

Why do you think it is failing because of this directory? The docker image indeed has the sdk directory and not a openwrt directory:

[san@page]$ docker run --rm -it openwrtorg/sdk:ar71xx-generic
build@a30b2d9b2d2a:~/sdk$ ls /home/
build
build@a30b2d9b2d2a:~/sdk$ ls /home/build/
sdk

Anyhow, to test this in travis a way is to change de make line to make -j1 V=s. To test locally I perform the "travis script" instructions in my computer

I don't know why it was disabled but I've just re enabled it

Can you delete the image and repeat it?
On my laptop I don't see the same.
I think the change is related to this: openwrt/docker@35cefd1
