This is because Dota2 isn't running from an app bundle, and Mac OS X does quirky things like this in such a case. You don't even need a .nib file, it just doesn't like it if the process isn't in a directory when launched, even if you launch it like a Unix process from the command line.

It's possible we can do some magic incantation that fixes this, but I don't know what it is. We'd probably need someone at Apple to help.
