Dumpling will not flash - SPL

I'm trying to upgrade to 22.1 version.

My recovery version is 21.0 (20241209).
When I try to flash the ROM i have the following messages

ERROR: recoverry Current SPL: 2024-12-01 Target SPL: 2024-11-05 this is considered a downgrade
ERROR: recovery: Denying OTA because it's a downgrade.

I try to update the recovery to the last version (22.1 found here), which was successful but after a 'adb -d reboot sideload' I'm back to version 21.0.

I see a boot.img in the download page. Was I suppose to use it ?

I think the SPL should be 2025-01-11 and not 2024-11-05. Is this a typo somewhere?

so I guess you need to flash the 20250111 recovery image before flashing the new ROM using adb -d sideload lineage-22.1-20250111-microG-dumpling

Not in our repos - that comes from the LineageOS repos. I guess it is possible that the SPL in the 22.1 branch (for ROM and recovery) is earlier than the SPL in the 21.1 branch. Either way, nothing we can do about this: we build (ROM & recovery) using the upstream code. If installing the 20250111 ROM using the 20250111 recovery still fails, then I guess you are stuck with 21.0 until the next build

Thank you for you answer. I read the instructions and I upgraded the recovery before trying to flash. When I reboot to the recovery from the bootloader I have the new version (22.1). BUT after a reboot, the version changes back to 21.0 (that's why I said that my recovery version is 21.0 when I try to flash)

Any idea of why ?

If not it's fine I'll just wait for the next build... Thank you !

My goal was to go from official LineageOS 21 to LineageOS for microG 22.

The guide for "Migration from LineageOS" says I have to flash LineageOS for microG in the original LineageOS recovery and "confirm flash despite signature mismatch".

The key phrase in this case from that guide is

Firstly, make sure the ZIP you want to install is newer than the current installed ROM, if it is not, wait for the next build.

It must also be newer that the currently installed recovery. So I would start by installing an earlier official LineageOS recovery: I suggest the earliest 21.0 recovery image still available for download from https://download.lineageos.org/devices/dumpling/builds

Then install the LineageOS for microG 22.0 ROM using that recovery, and confirm flash despite signature mismatch.

For both devices dumpling,enchilada I have

• removed the problematic 22.1 builds
• initated new 21.0 builds which include the signature spoofing changes
• initiated new 22.1 builds (which will be done once the 21.0 builds are complete)

Once these builds are completed I suggest you try

1. Make a backup of your user-installed apps and data, in case dirty flashing the upgrade turns out to require a data wipe (checkout this wiki post for some alternative backup solutions to SeedVault: I use https://github.com/AndDiSa/android_backup_project/ which works well and only requires rooted debugging, not full root)
2. Install the new 21.0 build over your existing installation. (could be done manually or OTA using Updater app)
3. Install the new 22.1 build manually using recovery and adb sideload

The problems may have been caused by the merge upstream of the January security update this change which happened at, 11:32pm UCT+1, a few hours after the 'broken' builds. Trying to flash with any recovery built after the merge will fail. No idea why flashing with a recovery built before the change.

Flashing enchilada does work without issues. It seems to be both possible to go from December 21.0 to new 22.1 as well as update 21.0 first and then upgrade to 22.1. Does the two step-process have lasting advantages?

@michaelschefczyk, "new 22.1" could be interpreted in different ways. So to clarify, you are saying that it works in both cases when updating to today's 20250113 22.1 build, right? Not the previous 20250109 22.1 build.

Yes, "new 22.1" means today's 20250113 2.22 build. No factory reset was required. At a quick glance, everything seems to work. The MicroG self test reports to be OK. Current Seedvault did not run yet but it does show the new menu items.

@petefoth yes I updated to the last 21.0 version yesterday; without issue. I just upgraded to 22.1 now and it worked flawlessly.
