Temporary burned in image on screen after closing window

If a window is closed after having been displayed for a few minutes, a faint burn-in or faint shadow of the now closed window will be visible on the screen (the longer the window is displayed, the stronger the burn-in). The burn-in image will eventually disappear after a few hours.

A screenshot of the affected area does not show the same issue.

Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon.

Issue did not manifest itself prior to switching to linux-surface kernel.

I have the same issue with Surface Pro 5 (2017). Any clue why this happens? Do you know if this damages the screen?
