Rejecting this commit.

If Oracle Java hardcodes the hint for Mutter, then they should also do so for Muffin.

OpenJDK works fine as a workaround.

Ok, it turns out OpenJDK doesn't work fine, and Java didn't patch itself for Cinnamon the way it did for Mutter/Metacity/Sawfish/Motif...etc...

So after 7 months of doing nothing, it's time to reconsider this and apply this fix. Thanks rat4 :)

I just installed Mate 1.6 on Linux Mint 14 and Ubuntu 12.10. There is an improvement in the behavior of Swing menus but the problem is not yet completely fixed. Some Swing apps loose focus now when the window is NOT maximized. And behavior of some depends on how exactly they are started - e.g. direct execution vs. shell script and also - execution from terminal vs from panel launcher. This is very annoying for hard core Java developers like myself. I would really hate to go back to Unity but I hate what is going on with Java under Mate too. Please help somehow!

Yep. Still a significant problem. I can't run Netbeans or OyxgenXML Developer.. they both suffer symptoms described in this thread. Not maximizing seems to be a work around, but is a bit cheesy. And yes.. this error is on both Iced Tea and Oracle (I'm running Linux Mint 14/Mate). Paid good money for OxygenXML.. and I can't use it. Frustrating.
