# Getting Started

## Install

### Community Plugins

Open **Settings → Community plugins → Browse**, search for **Ledge**, then install and enable it.

### Manual installation

Download `main.js`, `manifest.json`, and `styles.css` from the latest GitHub release and place them in:

```text
<Vault>/.obsidian/plugins/ledge/
```

Reload Obsidian and enable **Ledge** under **Community plugins**.

## Settings layout

Open **Settings → Community plugins → Ledge**.

The top row selects which Dock preset you are editing. The selected Dock has six sections:

1. **Items** — shortcuts and icons.
2. **Layout** — enabled state, position, size, spacing, and edge offset.
3. **Behavior** — auto-hide, motion, magnification, and labels.
4. **Visibility** — rules that decide where the Dock appears.
5. **Trigger** — the auto-hide activation area and visible trigger pill.
6. **Appearance** — Dock background, border, colors, and gradients.

**Data** and **About** are shared settings below the Dock-specific sections.

## Create a basic Dock

1. Select **Dock 1**.
2. Open **Layout** and choose a position.
3. Open **Items** and choose **Add dock item**.
4. Set a label and choose a vault file as the target.
5. Choose a built-in icon or an image stored in the vault.
6. Repeat for the shortcuts you use most.

Changes are applied as you edit them.

## Create another Dock

Use the **+** button beside the Dock preset buttons. Each Dock has its own items and settings, so another Dock can use a different position, appearance, visibility rule set, and behavior.
