Play testing Long War 2 [WOTC]
If you would like to play test Long War 2 [WOTC], first: thank you! It's much appreciated.
The game needs a lot of play testing to discover issues that appear later in a campaign than just within the first month. We also need to find out how it interacts with the new WOTC features, like the Chosen. We're particularly interested in game-breaking bugs or major balance issues.
Note There is a hot patch for alpha 5, 1.6.0-alpha-5.1, that fixes a bug with psi operatives gaining promotions only very, very slowly.
To get up and running, just follow these instructions:
Download the mod package for the current version — 1.6.0 alpha 5.1. You can find the link to the zip at the bottom of the page.
Unpack the Zip archive to your
Steam\steamapps\common\XCOM 2\XCom2-WarOfTheChosen\XComGame\Modsdirectory (just create the 'Mods' directory if it doesn't already exist)
Note Remove any
X2WOTCCommunityHighlanderdirectory from the Mods folder before unpacking the distribution. The community highlander that comes in the LW2 [WOTC] alpha distribution is compatible with the published 1.18.2 highlander version, but not other custom/patched versions of it (like the one used for the Covert Infiltration mod).
Unsubscribe from X2WOTCCommunityHighlander if you're subscribed to it
Start the game with the Long War 2 [WOTC] and X2WOTCCommunityHighlander mods selected.
Avoid these mods as they seem to cause crashes when launching some missions in LW2 [WOTC]:
- Missing Packages Fix + Resources
- Missing Packages Fix - Parcels and Maps Edition
We strongly recommend you subscribe to and enable these mods:
[WOTC] New Promotion Screen By DefaultEdit This is now integrated into LW2 [WOTC]
- [WOTC] Stats on New Promotion Screen
- [WotC] Mod Config Menu - provides a "Mod Settings" button on the XCOM 2 options menu that gives you access to configuration settings for various mods, including robojumper's Squad Select
You can use the Extended Information! mod, but you will need to follow these steps to do so:
- Edit the LW2 [WOTC] config file XComPerfectInformation.ini and change the
- Open the mod settings for Extended Information and disable anything related to Aim Assist
These quality of life mods seem to work OK with LW2 [WOTC] if you want to use them:
- [WOTC] Additional Icons
- Free Camera Rotation (although it overrides the left alt key by default)
- Evac All - WOTC
- Gotcha Again
- TacticalUI Kill Counter
- Yet another F1
In addition, we have a community-maintained list of mods and their compatibility.
Note that these mods are already integrated into LW2 [WOTC]:
- robojumper's Squad Select
- Detailed Soldier Lists
- New Promotion Screen By Default
- LW2: View Infiltrating Squad
- LW2 Information Display
Start a fresh campaign with alpha 5 and disable Lost and Abandoned. Do not try iron man!
If you want to test play with the Chosen active, change the value of
ACTIVATE_CHOSENin the mod's Config/XComLW_Overhaul.ini file to
If you already have a campaign running without the Chosen activated and you have already completed your first Liberation 2 mission, then you can activate the Chosen with the console command
ActivateChosen. This won't work unless you also enable the config var just mentioned.
Make sure auto saving is enabled. It will make it easier to get a save file that you can attach to a bug report.
Some behaviour, like overwatch, is the same as vanilla WOTC rather than Long War 2. That will probably change in the future, but don't be surprised at seeing vanilla-like behaviour in some scenarios. To change that overwatch behaviour back to the original game, you can use the Revert Overwatch Rules mod.
Finally, have fun!
Note You can find previous versions of the mod here.
You will encounter problems in the game. There are known ones already. If you would like to report an issue, please follow these steps:
If you're having problems starting the game, try clearing your config directory (Documents\My Games\XCOM2 War of the Chosen\XComGame\Config) and moving your profile.bin file out of the SaveData directory (which is next to the Config folder)
Create an issue in this GitHub repository if you're still having issues.
Attach a zipped save file that replicates the problem if possible. If you have an autosave, please load it and then save it explicitly with an meaningful name.
Provide as much information as you can, including what other mods you have enabled, the steps that reproduce the problem, what the impact of the problem is, and so on.
