The more I research this, the more it seems like it isn't really viable to automate this. I can definitely include epubs for some posts, and they're already supported as an attachment type, but trying to build them from source is somehow even more complicated than building LaTeX files. I'll keep the issue open for now, but it's a pretty low priority.
