We should offer a backlight control app for devices on battery.

To consider:

  • Keybind handling (most devices come with brightness controls, cf XF86 BRIGHTNESS input)
  • A brightness slider as a panel plugin (like the volume control plugin)
  • Automatic brightness adjustments depending on battery state. Should be configurable in power management config.

Re keybind handling: We may not need that. On my zenbook it seems to be handled at the kernel level (at least I think it's at the kernel level, I can't find what else could be handling it).

In fact, yes, the more I think about it the more I'm convinced this should be left to the kernel/acpi to deal with.

Code for bightness control already exists in lxqt-config-randr monitor
config tool.
We may reuse that code?

Probably.

Keep in mind this will have to work on Wayland eventually.

@PCMan are you sure lxqt-config-randr has backlight control? I think it has only brightness, which is different.

Actual lxqt-config-monitor (xrandr based) can control backlight and brightness.

The future lxqt-config-monitor (kscreen based) will not control or
backlight or brightness.
