UI still very confusing; users still adding notes to MAPS.ME and are surprised to see it in OSM #4819

But we have a one-time message panel about the global database of points and that one shouldn't share personal information. |
|
I can only say that it's not working, based on what I see getting added to OSM! I added the link to the changeset above because it describes exactly this user's thought process and could be used to help work out what needs to be done differently, because what is being done now is not working. |

Fair is fair, one test instance doesn't make a very convincing case. If you state the UI is "very confusing", then you need to back it up with at least a few more cases. I for one, don't find the UI regarding editing/bookmarking confusing at all. To me, it's clear as day which does what. But otoh, I suppose it doesn't hurt to add a semi-onetime message when editing/adding a place, that resets itself every, oh I dunno, every week? |
|
@thany Just look through http://resultmaps.neis-one.org/osm-discussions for people trying to make contact with MAPS.ME users. I tend to try and include some text like:
|
|
@thany , so you need a formal study, showing the number of created objects like "my mom's house" per unit of time? Do you think it should normalized to the whole number of edits or to the total number of created objects? If yes, than what absolute or relative number you considering a margin between "it makes sense to implement a permanent reminder" and "it doesn't make sense to do that"? By the way, personal view of a programmer, who obviously has significantly better skill of dealing with all kinds of UI than the vast majority of general public, doesn't seem representative in case of usability. |
|
I was just stating that one (or a few) cases isn't compelling enough to introduce obtrusive UI for people who do know what they're doing. Then I offer a slightly unobtrusive alternative. I don't consider numbers in there at all. But the maps.me developers might want to. |

For info, another example of the same issue: https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk/2016-December/077185.html |

And another example: https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-gb/2016-December/019606.html (this is from an experienced OSM mapper who's more than familiar with the issues since he's one of the main MAPS.ME tidier-uppers in the UK!) |

@SomeoneElseOSM That last comment makes more sense on #4663. Will note it there. |

I'm not using maps.me, but the UI must be confusing or how is it possible, that a user can create two notes at the same position .. after correct his typo? http://www.openstreetmap.org/note/888353 (Marens Fahrschule (OSM data version: 2017-01-19T15:17:02Z) #mapsme) So please fix this before creating new features! |
See http://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/43503743 , comment on 27/11/2016 10:10.
Note that this is essentially the same problem as described in #3712 which was closed by @Zverik in August as to be fixed immediately. It clearly has not been.
