Basically a port of this Prosody plugin:
https://modules.prosody.im/mod_auth_external.html

The reason is that it would allow tight integration with Nextcloud/JSXC chat:
https://github.com/jsxc/xmpp-cloud-auth

(See also the mentioned bugs with the Prosody plugin ;) )
