I'm seeing the following when I run 'mvn test-compile'

Able to reproduce the warning messages on the develop branch

I must have allowed the IDE to import the implementation-specific InternalError instead of using java.lang.InternalError

InternalError was wrong anyway because it indicates a Java VM error, so I switched to IllegalArgumentException.

I noticed a few other java.lang.InternalError uses in the test package but didn't touch those.
