just one stupid question: shouldn't this be done via the Bot Tracker Plugin?
which handle all the other bot visits?

Excluding bots is part of Piwik core as you can see in the code http://dev.piwik.org/trac/changeset/0fb5dd63cbdeee19904c0a6a5dcfab3624a8b4dd

Maybe Piwik should/could use these CSV sources too ?

The full CSV list (IP Addresses of Search Engine Spiders: http://user-agent-string.info/rpc/get_data.php?botIP-All=csv) has 18 000 IP by the way...
