Fixes the poor-looking zenodo badges at the bottom of http://matplotlib.org/citing.html (png has a transparent background). Also uniformized the link style.

Not sure what's going on with backports at the moment, but maybe small changes like this to docs should be backported to 2.1.x? If anyone wants to feel free to change the milestone.

In general, doc-only PRs should be backported as far as practical.
