Ideas for activities

Please add your ideas for activities that you might want to run, or would like other folks to consider running.

  • We could offer mentors who can help with "My First OSS Contribution" where anyone who had an idea for a bug fix/enhancement to an open source project but was unsure about how to go about it would team up with one of our experienced people to go through the whole process for the first time. I think a lot of people wish to contribute but are intimidated by the process and we could help get them started. -- Suggested by Ginny Hendry

  • We could do a study session discussing Gregory Moeck's "Why you don't get mocks" talk (slides, video), and possibly even invite Gregory to participate. Suggested by Gregory Brown and Eric Hodel.

  • As part of hackdays, we could gather proposals ahead of time for "trying out something new together". The proposals would ideally involve (1) technolog(ies) none of the participants are much familiar with, (2) a concrete project or goal that (3) can be accomplished during the hackday, and that (4) involves actual coding, so long as it isn't (5) Conway's Game of Life  Participants would then write up a summary or evaluation of what they learned afterwards. Suggested by Eric Gjertsen.
