With an existing savestate *.ss0 (Automatically save state/Automatically load state disabled through Settings > Interface), using File > Quick load > Load recent, instead of loading *.ss0, ends up creating *.ss1 with a

State 1 saved

message.

Fortunately, the autosave *.ss0 was not overwritten.
