Since the release of 3.0 alpha1 (https://blog.torproject.org/blog/announcing-tor-browser-bundle-30alpha1) the alpha bundles stopped working. Retrieving the signature results in a 404 error.

Thanks for reporting this. It has to do with differences in Tor's naming scheme. When they released 3.0 alpha1 they didn't upload the file in the place TBL expects it to be. I'm working on getting this resolved with them.

I've been talking to Mike Perry, the person who's building the 3.0 alpha1 builds. I'm planning on building in an exception for 3.0 soon, where downloads will be directly from these locations:

https://archive.torproject.org/tor-package-archive/torbrowser/3.0a1/
https://archive.torproject.org/tor-package-archive/torbrowser/3.0a2/
https://archive.torproject.org/tor-package-archive/torbrowser/3.0a3/
https://archive.torproject.org/tor-package-archive/torbrowser/3.0b1/

I'm hoping that he'll digitally sign these releases and upload the sigs, since right now there's no way to verify the 3.0 tarballs.

Upgrading to 3.x works now. Hopefully this will still work after 3.0-beta-3 too, but it just depends on if Tor decides to change it's directory structure again or not.
