It would be nice to have inline footnotes, with automatic numbering.
For example, in the JS world, the markdown-it-footnote plugin does it.

Syntax

That's some text with a footnote.^[And that's the footnote.]

Instead of the actual:

That's some text with a footnote.[^1]

[^1]: And that's the footnote.
