This is probably an extreme edge case, so it is understandable if the functionality is not desirable...

I have a guest that runs Xen which requires a hostonly interface, but the guest interface (eth1) should not be configured by Vagrant because the guest interface should be part of a bridge:

iface eth1 inet manual

auto xenbr0
iface xenbr0 inet static
        bridge_ports eth1
        address 192.168.56.10
        netmask 255.255.255.0
        network 192.168.56.0
        broadcast 192.168.56.255
        gateway 192.168.56.1
        dns_nameservers 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4
        post-up route del default gw 192.168.56.1; route add default gw 192.168.56.1 metric 100;

Currently, I'm managing the hostonly interface with modifyvm, but I will need to add a lot of ruby logic to create the hostonly network if it doesn't exist, set the IP address, etc.

This is already a feature, just specify auto_config: false as an option. I've added it to the docs now (will deploy with next version release).
