Lots of companies struggle to find great designers. Every week, clients ask us to recommend a designer for them to hire internally, and with our huge following of talented designers, we knew there had to be an easy way to bring the two together.
+
+
We launched ZURBjobs to help companies find talent in their own quest for world domination. ZURBjobs had to look amazing on every device, so we used Foundation to quickly build the site. Here are some of the highlights of how we built and launched using Foundation.
+
+
+
+
+
+
+
Minimal Code Required
+
+
Using Foundation, we were able to quickly insert form elements on the site using its preset elements. This kicked us into warp speed — we didn’t have to code entirely new elements, simply adapt the existing ones with light custom styles.
+
+
+
Mobile Optimized
+
+
Of course, since we built with Foundation, the site works great on mobile devices. CSS3 helps us avoid extraneous image requests, ensuring that things feel snappy even on slower connections. The layout also adapts to be simple and straightforward.
+
+
+
Next Steps: Managing Jobs
+
+
Like any project there's more to do and more to refine. Up next, we'll be fleshing out the customer admin tools so people can create, modify, and close out their own postings.

Adding Custom Forms with JavaScript
+
+
If you are creating these custom forms using JavaScript (via AJAX, JavaScript templates or whatever), you will also need to create the custom markup that Foundation typically creates for you.
+
+
Foundation detects any custom forms when the document has loaded and adds the custom markup required to make the forms pretty. However if you are adding these forms after the document has loaded, Foundation does not know to append this markup.
+
+
All the custom forms events are bound using jQuery.fn.on(), so you don't need to worry about event handlers not being bound to new elements.
In the command line, navigate to the directory you'd like to use for your new project or include the path with your 'compass create' command. This will create a directory that includes all the Foundation files, config.rb, and a directory called sass.

Our Compass Gem defaults to SCSS, but can easily be switched to SASS on the fly when you create a project, just run the following:

Using Compass to Compile Your SASS into CSS

Adding to Existing Projects

We've also made it very easy to add our gem to existing project. You just need to make sure to add require "ZURB-foundation" to the top of your config file. Then navigate to your project directory and run:

Using Compass to Compile Your SASS/SCSS into CSS
Navigate into your new project directory from the command line and run the following line, which will tell Compass to watch your sass files for when you save. Each time you save, Compass will compile the file into plain CSS and give you error if there are any.

Sometimes within the grid you want the order of your markup to not necessarily be the same as the order items are flowed into the grid. Using these source ordering classes you can shift columns around on desktops and tablets. On phones the grid will still be linearized into the order of the markup.

The tooltips can be attached to most objects and work cross-device on click or tap. Note: Within this version we now include a build of Modernizr to detect touch-enabled devices. Is it not mandatory, but the nav works best with it in place. You can use another build of Modernizr if you have touch-detection and classes turned on.

2.1.4 December 19, 2011
+
Two semi-major new features: source ordering and video embed support. You can now reorder the grid (both desktop/tablet and phone) using push and pull classes. If you need to embed Youtube or Vimeo videos you can wrap them in a simple .flex-video class to have them scale by proportion within the grid. We also updated the nav-bar to work properly across more devices, and fixed a number of other small bugs.
+
+
2.1.3 December 9, 2011
+
We've fixed a number of inheritance issues with dropdown nav, and turned off the JS hooks for that element while we resolve some iOS / Android inconsistencies. Dropdowns will work as expected based on their CSS, but have no special mobile functionality at the moment.
+
+
2.1.2 December 7, 2011
+
Added nav bar styles to ui.css including arbitrary-content dropdowns. Added basic support for microformats. Modified how the grid handles phone sizes through margin and padding, and in the process fixed a bug which broke the phone grid when used outside another column.
+
+
2.1.1 November 21, 2011
Fixed an issue with buttons modifying their bottom margin on hover, as well as fixing bugs with rows inside a Reveal modal and changing the desktop visibility for objects with a declared display property.

2.1 November 18, 2011
Added in a four-column mobile grid which can be optionally attached to existing grid elements. Retooled the documentation site for better scalability and added in a vertical tabs element. Also included documentation for the new SaSS gem.
Reveal uses RGBa colors, which IE7 does not support. You can manually exchange RGBa for PNGs to provide IE7 support in Reveal

This includes the shipping browser on the Motorola XOOM and several newer Android phones. However, there is no single Android browser so testing is slightly constrained.
Labels are useful inline styles that can be dropped into body copy to call out certain sections or to attach metadata. Examples might be noting when something was updated or that something is new. The syntax is simple, just a span element with a class of .label. The border styling mirrors that of the Foundation buttons.

Tooltips
+
Tooltips are a quick way to provide extended information on a term or action on a page. They work cross browser and cross platfrom and are easily added to a page by including the jquery.tooltip.js plugin. You can apply the has-tip class to any element, as long as you assign it a unique ID.
+
+
By default the tooltip takes the width of the element that it is applied to, but you can override this behavior by applying a data-width attribute to the target element. The tooltip takes on the content of the targets title attribute.
+
+
The tooltips can be positioned on the "bottom", which is the default position, "top", "left", or "right" of the target element.In a mobile environment the tooltips are full width and bottom aligned.
+
+
+
+
+
Panels
+
A panel is a simple, helpful css class that enables you to outline sections of your page easily. This allows you to view your page sections as you add content to them, or add emphasis to a section (for example the download box on the right).
+
+
+
My panel is bigger than yours.
+
Seriously, just look at this sweet panel.

Tabs
@@ -69,6 +121,7 @@
Tabs are made of two objects: a DL object containing the tabs themselves, and a UL object containing the tab content. If you simply want visual tabs (as seen in this documentation) without the on-page hookup, you only need the DL. If you want functional tabs, just be sure that each tab is linked to an ID, and that the corresponding tab has an ID of tabnameTab. Check out these examples.
If you need a more traditional nav bar with dropdowns, you can use this sucka. The dropdowns are optional - omitting the flyout element and .has-flyout class means it will act as a standard link. The flyouts can hold arbitrary content, including grid objects, and have three sizes (.small, standard, and .large).
+
+
Note: In IE7 the dropdowns are obscured by the code snippet below. This is due to IE7s iframe z-index bug, and is not an issue with the dropdowns themselves. Try not to have dropdown elements over an iframe.

You can also drop inputs into the nav in place of an anchor. Here you can see a search input.
If you need to provide simple and effective on-page navigation, to either jump to content on the page or flip to another view then use this awesome little sub-nav.
Breaking stuff up into pages? Yeah you are. Here's some pagination to get you started.

Video
+
If you're embedding video from YouTube, Vimeo, or another site that uses iframe, embed or object elements you can wrap your video in div.flex-video to create an intrinsic ratio that will properly scale your video on any device.
+ 4:3 is the default size for the .flex-video element, and the assumption for .flex-video for chrome (controls) height is based on YouTube.
+
+
+
+
+
+ By adding a class of .widescreen we change the ratio to 16:9, ideal for more recent video and most popular YouTube or Vimeo embeds.
+
+
+
+
+
+ Because Vimeo places their chrome on the player itself, adding a class of .vimeo creates a container that is sized for the video only - no extra padding for the controls.
+
+
+
+
+
+
+
+
Microformats
+
Microformats are formats for data objects represented on the page using standard HTML. By applying specific classes to objects parsers like the operator plugin can detect relevant data and display it. This can be especially handy for contact info, events, locations and news articles. We've supplied some base styling for microformats, as well as the relevant markup.
+
+
hCard
+
hCards are a microformat for contact information. We've represented the correct syntax here to ensure they are machine readable, as well as applied some minimal styling.
An hCalendar event is an iCalendar formatted entry for an event at a specific time and location. This can be interpreted by parsing tools to recognize events and add them to a calendar.

- // Why do we have to rely on proximity?
- //
- // Because the target of the touch event that triggered the vclick
- // can be different from the target of the click event synthesized
- // by the browser. The target of a mouse/click event that is syntehsized
- // from a touch event seems to be implementation specific. For example,
- // some browsers will fire mouse/click events for a link that is near
- // a touch event, even though the target of the touchstart/touchend event
- // says the user touched outside the link. Also, it seems that with most
- // browsers, the target of the mouse/click event is not calculated until the
- // time it is dispatched, so if you replace an element that you touched
- // with another element, the target of the mouse/click will be the new
- // element underneath that point.
- //
- // Aside from proximity, we also check to see if the target and any
- // of its ancestors were the ones that blocked a click. This is necessary
- // because of the strange mouse/click target calculation done in the
- // Android 2.1 browser, where if you click on an element, and there is a

-// About: Support and Testing
-//
-// Information about what version or versions of jQuery this plugin has been
-// tested with, what browsers it has been tested in, and where the unit tests
-// reside (so you can test it yourself).
-//
-// jQuery Versions - 1.2.6, 1.3.2, 1.4.1, 1.4.2
-// Browsers Tested - Internet Explorer 6-8, Firefox 2-4, Chrome 5-6, Safari 3.2-5,
-// Opera 9.6-10.60, iPhone 3.1, Android 1.6-2.2, BlackBerry 4.6-5.
-// Unit Tests - http://benalman.com/code/projects/jquery-hashchange/unit/
-//
-// About: Known issues
-//
-// While this jQuery hashchange event implementation is quite stable and
-// robust, there are a few unfortunate browser bugs surrounding expected
-// hashchange event-based behaviors, independent of any JavaScript
-// window.onhashchange abstraction. See the following examples for more
-// information:
-//
-// Chrome: Back Button - http://benalman.com/code/projects/jquery-hashchange/examples/bug-chrome-back-button/
-// Firefox: Remote XMLHttpRequest - http://benalman.com/code/projects/jquery-hashchange/examples/bug-firefox-remote-xhr/
-// WebKit: Back Button in an Iframe - http://benalman.com/code/projects/jquery-hashchange/examples/bug-webkit-hash-iframe/
-// Safari: Back Button from a different domain - http://benalman.com/code/projects/jquery-hashchange/examples/bug-safari-back-from-diff-domain/
-//
-// Also note that should a browser natively support the window.onhashchange
-// event, but not report that it does, the fallback polling loop will be used.
-//
-// About: Release History
-//
-// 1.3 - (7/21/2010) Reorganized IE6/7 Iframe code to make it more
-// "removable" for mobile-only development. Added IE6/7 document.title
-// support. Attempted to make Iframe as hidden as possible by using
-// techniques from http://www.paciellogroup.com/blog/?p=604. Added
-// support for the "shortcut" format $(window).hashchange( fn ) and
-// $(window).hashchange() like jQuery provides for built-in events.
-// Renamed jQuery.hashchangeDelay to and
-// lowered its default value to 50. Added
-// and properties plus document-domain.html
-// file to address access denied issues when setting document.domain in
-// IE6/7.
-// 1.2 - (2/11/2010) Fixed a bug where coming back to a page using this plugin
-// from a page on another domain would cause an error in Safari 4. Also,
-// IE6/7 Iframe is now inserted after the body (this actually works),
-// which prevents the page from scrolling when the event is first bound.
-// Event can also now be bound before DOM ready, but it won't be usable
-// before then in IE6/7.
-// 1.1 - (1/21/2010) Incorporated document.documentMode test to fix IE8 bug
-// where browser version is incorrectly reported as 8.0, despite
-// inclusion of the X-UA-Compatible IE=EmulateIE7 meta tag.
-// 1.0 - (1/9/2010) Initial Release. Broke out the jQuery BBQ event.special
-// window.onhashchange functionality into a separate plugin for users
-// who want just the basic event & back button support, without all the
-// extra awesomeness that BBQ provides. This plugin will be included as
-// part of jQuery BBQ, but also be available separately.

- // Method: jQuery.fn.hashchange
- //
- // Bind a handler to the window.onhashchange event or trigger all bound
- // window.onhashchange event handlers. This behavior is consistent with
- // jQuery's built-in event handlers.
- //
- // Usage:
- //
- // > jQuery(window).hashchange( [ handler ] );
- //
- // Arguments:
- //
- // handler - (Function) Optional handler to be bound to the hashchange
- // event. This is a "shortcut" for the more verbose form:
- // jQuery(window).bind( 'hashchange', handler ). If handler is omitted,
- // all bound window.onhashchange event handlers will be triggered. This
- // is a shortcut for the more verbose
- // jQuery(window).trigger( 'hashchange' ). These forms are described in
- // the section.
- //
- // Returns:
- //
- // (jQuery) The initial jQuery collection of elements.
-
- // Allow the "shortcut" format $(elem).hashchange( fn ) for binding and
- // $(elem).hashchange() for triggering, like jQuery does for built-in events.
- $.fn[ str_hashchange ] = function( fn ) {
- return fn ? this.bind( str_hashchange, fn ) : this.trigger( str_hashchange );
- };
-
- // Property: jQuery.fn.hashchange.delay
- //
- // The numeric interval (in milliseconds) at which the
- // polling loop executes. Defaults to 50.
-
- // Property: jQuery.fn.hashchange.domain
- //
- // If you're setting document.domain in your JavaScript, and you want hash
- // history to work in IE6/7, not only must this property be set, but you must
- // also set document.domain BEFORE jQuery is loaded into the page. This
- // property is only applicable if you are supporting IE6/7 (or IE8 operating
- // in "IE7 compatibility" mode).
- //
- // In addition, the property must be set to the
- // path of the included "document-domain.html" file, which can be renamed or
- // modified if necessary (note that the document.domain specified must be the
- // same in both your main JavaScript as well as in this file).
- //
- // Usage:
- //
- // jQuery.fn.hashchange.domain = document.domain;
-
- // Property: jQuery.fn.hashchange.src
- //
- // If, for some reason, you need to specify an Iframe src file (for example,
- // when setting document.domain as in ), you can
- // do so using this property. Note that when using this property, history
- // won't be recorded in IE6/7 until the Iframe src file loads. This property
- // is only applicable if you are supporting IE6/7 (or IE8 operating in "IE7
- // compatibility" mode).
- //
- // Usage:
- //
- // jQuery.fn.hashchange.src = 'path/to/file.html';
-
- $.fn[ str_hashchange ].delay = 50;
- /*
- $.fn[ str_hashchange ].domain = null;
- $.fn[ str_hashchange ].src = null;
- */
-
- // Event: hashchange event
- //
- // Fired when location.hash changes. In browsers that support it, the native
- // HTML5 window.onhashchange event is used, otherwise a polling loop is
- // initialized, running every milliseconds to
- // see if the hash has changed. In IE6/7 (and IE8 operating in "IE7
- // compatibility" mode), a hidden Iframe is created to allow the back button
- // and hash-based history to work.
- //
- // Usage as described in :
- //
- // > // Bind an event handler.
- // > jQuery(window).hashchange( function(e) {
- // > var hash = location.hash;
- // > ...
- // > });
- // >
- // > // Manually trigger the event handler.
- // > jQuery(window).hashchange();
- //
- // A more verbose usage that allows for event namespacing:
- //
- // > // Bind an event handler.
- // > jQuery(window).bind( 'hashchange', function(e) {
- // > var hash = location.hash;
- // > ...
- // > });
- // >
- // > // Manually trigger the event handler.
- // > jQuery(window).trigger( 'hashchange' );
- //
- // Additional Notes:
- //
- // * The polling loop and Iframe are not created until at least one handler
- // is actually bound to the 'hashchange' event.
- // * If you need the bound handler(s) to execute immediately, in cases where
- // a location.hash exists on page load, via bookmark or page refresh for
- // example, use jQuery(window).hashchange() or the more verbose
- // jQuery(window).trigger( 'hashchange' ).
- // * The event can be bound before DOM ready, but since it won't be usable
- // before then in IE6/7 (due to the necessary Iframe), recommended usage is
- // to bind it inside a DOM ready handler.
-
- // Override existing $.event.special.hashchange methods (allowing this plugin
- // to be defined after jQuery BBQ in BBQ's source code).
- special[ str_hashchange ] = $.extend( special[ str_hashchange ], {
-
- // Called only when the first 'hashchange' event is bound to window.
