Improve traceability/debugging output

At the moment it can be very hard to determine where something has gone wrong. I'd like to propose a --verbose (and/or --debug) flag which greatly increases the output that the user will see.

Bumping to another release as I don't really have a plan for this yet - I think it is still an issue but it doesn't catch me out at least.

Added some in #401 which covers my initial need for this.
