Filtered Alias is not supported in Browser #39

I have created some filtered aliases over a index. All the aliases are listed in browser page but when I selected any specific alias the no of hits remain the same which is not possible. All alias return the data same as the index on which they are created.

I think the browser view does not support filtered aliases as you are expecting. When you select an alias in the browser view, it just uses the alias to select the corresponding indicies. It does not use the alias to perform the search, so filtering information (which head is not aware of) is ignored.

What I understand about elasticsearch is that usage of alias name in elasticsearch api is same as for the index name. We can run any search query transparently on any index as well at it alias. So why there is need to resolve an alias to corresponding index in browser?

That is my understanding as well. On the browser view the 'alias' drop down is supported only as a shortcut for selecting indicies however. AFAIK this feature was added before filtered aliases existed, which may explain the confusing design. If I was redesigning it today, I would probably have aliases and indices selectable at the same level.

So any plans to make the required changes?
