Can I use VLC to play video in raspberry?

I've always wanted to use C to play videos in raspberry pie. GTK # doesn't seem to integrate VLC in raspberry pie very well

Webkit4gtk-sharp (or whatever its name is, gtk# binding to webkit2) works quite well on Linux, and can play video within web pages.

Surely vlc-centric question (and about raspberrypi) should go to vlc related places?
