While mopidy deps does check and report the version of python-gi that's installed, it doesn't check for the required GStreamer GObject Introspection overrides for Python (python-gst package in Debian/Ubuntu, gst-python in Arch, python-gstreamer in Fedora). Of course, this shouldn't be an issue if you followed the installation instructions fully but we could make debugging a bit easier.

I can't work out how to report the actual version of python-gst but we can check it's present with something like one of the following hacky checks:

  • 'Gst' in dir(gi.overrides)
  • Gst.__module__ == 'gi.overrides'
  • hasattr(Gst._overrides_module, 'ElementFactory') etc
