I'm leaning towards LDML date format since it's readable and a unicode standard. But the strftime is also nice since it's more widespread.
In fact since file size isn't a restriction we can code both. I will probably start with strftime since it's simpler to implement (just a few RegExp).
+1 for LDML, although strftime would probably be nice also. Would you put the different formats in separate modules?
