The first prototype iteration is using a WebView. The reason for that is mostly that GeckoView is not ready to be used in the way we want to.

The platform team has identified the tasks for shipping a GeckoView MVP that meets the requirements for Focus for Android. This work is tracked on Bugzilla:

We now have a build variant (focusGeckoDebug) that uses GeckoView. It's not fully functional yet.
