So if you mess with things like FF_PLAYDOH_BRANCH between runs it now complains which will alert you to wipe out .playdoh and run again.

you could just delete it though, right? If last-env.txt exists then it's safe to assume that it was an auto-generated repository for the purposes of testing.

? Instead of SystemError do a shutil.rmtree or something?

yeah shutil.rmtree will cause the new repo to silently clone and tests will run as expected
