@pmac and I are done maintaining Standup and are planning to end the project very soon.

If you want to save Standup, comment here and we can work out the details with whoever shows up to comment.

Two things to note:

  1. @pmac and I are only going to pass this project as is off to someone we know really well and trust.
  2. If an individual shows up and wants to take over and/or a group forms and we don't know those people so well, that's fine--we'll ask you fork the project using a different repo, name, infrastructure, etc. Then we'll end this version of it.

Why? We have responsibilities we need to maintain regarding the data and the domain names.

I would like to step up and take the oppurtunity to go forward. But in that case @willkg or @pmac one of you should review the PR that is going to be deployed. Is it possible from your end to review PR time by time? I can manage the backend part including keeping the packages supported with some of my time.
I believe you and @pmac know me well and can keep your trust on me. Hope I can gather small team of volunteer developers who can commit some of their time into the project.
Let me know if you have any issue to discuss to handover the project.

There are a couple of different aspects of this project:

The first is the code--you can take over the code. There's this repository and the standup-irc repository. Having said that, I don't think it's worth taking over since there's a ton of technical debt and writing a new standup would probably be easier. I'm sure there will be different opinions on that. I'm fine with passing ownership of the code to whoever. I don't plan on making code changes or reviewing PRs past September. I really want to be done with this project.

The second aspect is the Standup service--I do remember working with you on SUMO, but I don't know you well enough to pass ownership of the service to you. Sorry! :(

@willkg I understand that you dont know me very well that you can pass the ownership of the service to me. Let me know if I can convince you anyhow with my dedication to keep this service up and running.

@willkg What's involved in owning the Standup service itself? Given my utter failure to find anything comparable, I'm tempted.

Maybe you and @safwanrahman and whoever else is interested can team up and fork the project and run that?

@willkg I can run the project by forking, but its not possible from my end to bear the server cost and others.
Dont know if anyone can give a support the project by donating the server and domain resources.

If it helps, Standups ran for several years on the free Heroku tier. We only switched to the non-free tier because Mozilla had a corporate account and I think we wanted a better db or something like that. Depending on how many people you plan to support with your fork, that might work fine for you.

I already pay for a full web hosting service through Dreamhost; it could be put there easily enough. I guess I should not have assumed that 12 years on the MDN staff would clinch things. :)
