We're renaming TanStarter to Cove Stack - a more distinctive name that better reflects the project’s long-term identity.
Planned repository changes:
mugnavo/tanstarter → mugnavo/cove
mugnavo/tanstarter-monorepo → mugnavo/cove-monorepo
tanstarter.mugnavo.com → cove.mugnavo.com
pnpm create mugnavo → pnpm create cove
GitHub automatically handles redirects from the old repository names, so existing links and Git remotes should continue to work.
What is not changing
This is a name change only. Cove Stack’s goal, scope, and open-source approach remain the same.
Cove Stack will remain freely available under the Unlicense. It will not become a paid product, require attribution, or introduce usage restrictions.
Why rename?
Originally released as dotnize/tanstarter in August 2024, the project has been around since the earliest publicly usable alpha releases of TanStack Start. However, the name is essentially a combination of “TanStack” and “starter”, so it's not really distinctive and is now shared with a growing, unaffiliated product that is commercially offered as a SaaS boilerplate.
Cove Stack gives this project a more distinct long-term identity and helps avoid confusion between two differently positioned projects as both continue independently.
Why Cove?
Cove Stack takes inspiration from TanStack’s relaxed beach-and-vacation feel. A cove is a calm, sheltered place by the water. Simple, welcoming, and a good place to start building.
