If I am looking for the meaning of 在, for example, there is a long list of combined Kanji, until I finally find the single one in the list. It would make more sense and accuracy, if the single 在 would be listed at the top.

Thanks for letting me know. The 在(zai) entry is not common, so it is pushed down the result list. Yet you are right, it is a perfect match for 在, so perhaps it should really be listed first.
