Publish wheels for PyPy

Would it be possible to publish wheels for PyPy? I believe that is why I get this error.

Unfortunately this is not easy, since we depend on some of CPython internals. The current recommendation is to only run type-check in your CI matrix on CPython. For example, in your matrix you run type check for both CPython 3.11 and PyPy 3.11 https://github.com/y-crdt/pycrdt/blob/main/.github/workflows/test.yml#L25-L29, but this is actually redundant, since type-checking results will be identical.

I understand this will complicate your CI workflow, but this is the only viable solution in foreseeable future. I will update the README with these recommendations.

But the issue is at install-time, not at run-time, and I don't think this works?

Yes, you will need a separate dependency group (you can call it types) where you will have mypy and any other packages you need only for type-checking, if any, e.g. type stub packages. And then you can add something like this

    - name: Install dependencies for type checking
      if: !(matrix.python-version == 'pypy3.11')
      run: pip install --group types

and add the same if to the Check types step.

Yes I was thinking about that, but I actually have tests that use mypy through pytest-mypy-testing here, so that complicated the picture.

OK, I see. I think you can try splitting your test dependency group further and:

• Only install the pytest plugin on CPython
• Conditionally add pytest -k "not mypy_testing" to the test command

Cross-posting for visibility, another possible workaround found in python/mypy#20329 is to use something like this:
