Package installation problems in RHEL6 #23

Installing naemon on RHEL6 fails due to a dependency on xorg-x11-server-Xvfb. It looks like this package was removed from RHEL6 fairly recently. They've supposedly moved it to the optional channel, but getting that to work is like pulling teeth.

whats the supposed way in rhel6 to install xvfb then? Besides that, this is only required for the reporting addon and the reason why the reporting addon is in a seperate package.

I'm not sure. I haven't gotten the optional channel working (I'm fairly new to RHEL) I guess I could just grab the rpm from somewhere and install it manually. I'll skip the reporting for now though.

So I wonder if this is a RHEL specific change? I just tried to do a full install from the yum repo on SL 6.4 and it worked without errors.

xorg-x11-server-Xvfb x86_64 1.13.0-23.1.sl6 sl-security 774 k

Looks like CentOS has it in the standard REPO too.

RedHat has the funny work of letting an Enterprise product become harder to
use by default with the channels.

You enable it in your rhn.redhat.com

if you don't have access to it, you should run CentOS instead.

I'm running RHEL Server 6.5.

I've tried activating the channel, but I guess I need to have an admin level redhat account- which I do not. Boo!
