Is there a way to support a version 4.3, or downgrade Nspire to 4.2 and use Ndless?

@shirt-dev

We need this!

@NigerianWanger

They should totally make a Ndless for 4.3

@Austin-Parks

Yeah I found out about ndless literally as my nspire was updating to 4.3 ... I'm so dissapointed. I shouldn't have upgraded, what was I thinking.

@Austin-Parks Same thing man. I bought the calculator thinking I would be able to do all the awesome stuff I heard about it, and decided to update before hacking it, only to find out the latest version patches everything. Hopefully some of the developers notice the thread.

These guys working on ndless seem like they've had consistent success. I'm sure it takes a lot of effort and time to jimmy the lock on these things and I can only assume it gets harder every time.

Hey does anybody know if I can use a embedded programmer of some type to re-flash the actual chip? I'm not afraid of hardware hacks to downgrade or whatever. I'm assuming the flash is locked away inside the die where you can't do that, but point me in a direction if its possible.

Please I need this too! I accidentally updated to OS 4.3 when reinstalling my OS and now I can't downgrade.
@Vogtinator I know you're a busy guy but I really want to know when Ndless 4.3 will be out!
I have hardware revision X btw which I'm pretty sure is almost exactly the same as W. I'm willing to do any tests and review on Ndless but please don't abondon this project.

Looks like the developers posted a blog post regarding 4.3 that there isn't an ETA, but looks like they are still working hard!

I'm really hopping that ndless 4.3 goes out soon. We don't just want this... we need this. You guys kicked TI's ass lots of times. How about a 4.3th time?

I'm so regretful that i updated my calculator to 4.3 even before trying this amazing software, the only thing that i can do now is waiting for the good news with alot of hope...

There is a site on the TI Knowlege Base (https://epsstore.ti.com/OA_HTML/csksxvm.jsp?nSetId=109888) that shows you wipe the OS off your NSpire letting you flash any OS. Here's 4.0.3 and 4.2.0 downloads on TI-Planet: https://tiplanet.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17765.

But did anyone try it on the new 4.3 ? Because it seems like theres no way to downgrade, if anyone already did it please tell us if this method works, thanks

Downgrading 4.3 is currently impossible, I tried what dthaha said without success.

They blocked downgrading in 4.3

@darzeia

darzeia commented Dec 4, 2016

Is downgrading impossible even with serial communication? I managed to reprogram my CX CAS' BOOT2 and DIAGS with old boot2.img using calculators dock connector and USB FTDI. Still I can't install older operating system. It just says that you can't install an older os than the current os. What else there could be?

@glotchimo
Copy link

@darzeia , what hardware revision do you have? I'm pretty sure if it's W, it's impossible to downgrade. Also, OS 4.3.0.702 patched nsNandMgr so as far as in-place downgrade goes, that's out of the picture right now.

glotchimo commented Dec 4, 2016

everybody check the ti nspire news thread on ti planet:
https://tiplanet.org/forum/newspage.php?f=43

If you still have OS 4.2 and ControlX, it's possible to upgrade to 4.3 while keeping ndless.

@darzeia
Copy link

darzeia commented Dec 4, 2016

@organism-in-charge I have hardware revision C. Should it be possible to downgrade just by reprogramming the boot2 through serial port or is there something more that is preventing downgrading?

@glotchimo
Copy link

@darzeia TI patched downgrading in 4.3. If you've installed 4.3 on your device, as for now, it's impossible to go back, even if you wipe the system. If you have anything lower than 4.3 though, you can use ControlX and boot management stuff from critor to autoboot with ndless.

@Vogtinator

@darzeia With a HW-rev. C calc you can downgrade boot2 to version 3.1 and install nLaunch (https://github.com/Excale/nLaunchy)

@glotchimo
Copy link

@Vogtinator is that only applicable to HWR C?

@Vogtinator
Copy link

@organism-in-charge nLaunch supports all CX (CAS) until (exclusive) HW-J.

@glotchimo
Copy link

@Vogtinator Alright, thanks. I feel like such an idiot. I was putting linuxloader onto my calc (HW-L, OS 3.6 at the time) so that I could get started on that area of things, as I am relatively new to the community. But then genius old me never shut auto-update off when I switched machines, and boom. I install OS 4.3 without thinking, totally sinking myself. What do I have to learn and do to help develop Ndless?

@darzeia
Copy link

darzeia commented Dec 5, 2016

@Vogtinator that did it. Thanks! After that I tried to install fresh 4.0.3 without nLaunch but same thing again, can't install os older than current one. So I did it again with nLaunch and then I fired nsNandMgr up and there it is in BootD area. BD: min =4.3.0.702 and boot=Diags. Can I somehow delete it with nsNandMgr or some other tool?

@Vogtinator

@darzeia nsNandMgr offers the option to clear the bootdata area.

is there a way to get ndless yet ?

@Cyxo

Cyxo commented Dec 10, 2016

Now TI started selling with OS 4.3 on it (I bought one a week ago), so does that mean it is the end of ndless ? I don't know how the devs will be able to make a new ndless version, because that means finding a new hack (maybe a Lua hack ? or whatever), and that may take time. Maybe if they find a new way, it will be hard to apply it ? Anyway, good luck devs !

Interesting, what's the datecode and hardware revision on the back of the calculator? (it's the few characters on the right of the serial number, something like P-0716Y)

Just, what doesn't work no more ? Is it just the installer or whole ndless ?

@adriweb Do you think we can downgrade as it's a Y ? (would it be worth it ?)

@adriweb

adriweb commented Dec 10, 2016

Well, I don't really know the details, but when a new Ndless gets released, TI will fix the bug/flaw exploited by the Ndless installer to do its things (with the code in ndless_resources.tns).
So, for new versions of Ndless, a new exploitable flaw has to be found by the devs to make the installer work again (and the resources "only" need to be adapted for the new OS)

@AnonDurden

I hope the developers get it. I bought the calculator and before reading in forums I updated it to version 4.3 T_T. Thank you all for your work.

Hey (sorry for my bad english, I'm german),
I got a NSpire at Christmas and the new OS was installed. -.- I hope so much that the new ndless come very soon. Sometimes I hate the NSpire at the moment because I used before the TI84Plus with applications.
Maybe are there a little programm for a clock on the Nspire without ndless? I need one in the lab.
Thank you all. ;)
