Weekend Schedule

• Saturday: drive to yosemite (4 hrs from Bay Area)
• Sunday: hike and drive back

Hike Schedule

14.2 miles; total elevation 4,800ft

5AM: Happy Isles, trail head
11AM: Subdome (permit checking)
1PM: Summit
7PM: end

Permit

• 300 permits = 255 day hikers + 75 backpackers
• To apply, $10 for each lottery and then $10 per person (cancel two days ahead!)

Checklist

Essential Gears (You must have these!)

• hiking shoes with good traction (buy as good as your budget allows)
• work gloves (important for the last part)
• backpack (to pack clothes, water; I like Osprey)
• clothing: base layer (important)
• clothing: shell layer (e.g. rain jacket; consider GORE-TEX; may not need; consider Patagonia)
• 4L water per person (consider getting a reservoir bag)
• trekking poles (black diamond is good)

Best-to-have Personal Gears

• clothing: mid layer (day weather is fine; night weather can be cold)
• long wool socks (2+ pairs; recommend SmartWool)
• sun hat (sun protection)
• energy bars (or your favorite food, needs to cover 2000+ calories; can get as a group)
• flashlight / headlamp (should be fine if we leave at 6am; consider 300+ Lumens)
• sun glasses
• carabiners and harness

Shelter (rent at REI/sportsbasement)

• n/2 tents (Ben has one 2p tent)
• n sleeping bag
• n sleeping pads

Group Gears (Ben will take care)

• sun screen
• cooking set
• first aid kit
• water filtration kit (just in case)
• map / GPS / compass
• extra batteries
• knife
• firestarter
• hand sanitizer
• toilet paper
• trash bags

Lessons

1. Walkie Talkie is a must if group split can happen (at least up to 10 miles)
2. Establish ground rules and NO exception
3. Set schedule (when to return) and strictly follow it
4. Bring enough supplies (water) and gears
5. Everyone should do their due diligence
