Honeycomb passively monitors DHCP leases and gives users an opportunity to claim devices by hardware MAC address. It then monitors subsequent usage and can show current or historical usage information.

Developer Information
To get running, first build your db:

  • create a database.yml with your favorite db as development
  • rake db:create
  • rake db:migrate:reset
  • rake db:load:manufacturers

Now to populate the ‘appearances’ with some test data from a fake log:

  • RAILS_ENV=development lib/daemons/net_monitor_ctl start
