Bug description
Workstations should be able to reboot reasonably quickly. Some workstations are often left in sleep (suspend-to-ram) mode, and are up for comparatively short times; if anacron is installed, it'll likely run the daily cron jobs at these times. As it turns out, anacron on Debian-based systems now has an infinite timeout for shutdown. Therefore, it's entirely likely that anacron will cause a delay on shutdown, for up to 60 minutes with the default value of NETDATA_UPDATER_JITTER.
Expected behavior
- If being run by anacron, jitter should not be performed at all.
- If the system is being shut down, the updater should be cancelled
- Possibly recommend to users this workaround: Modify
/lib/systemd/system/anacron.serviceso that it no longer hasTimeoutStopSec=infinity.
Steps to reproduce
- Wait for anacron to start netdata-updater; ideally be unlucky and have the random jitter be high
- Shutdown or reboot your system
- Wait in frustration
- Likely press F1 on the shutdown screen to see details; see that anacron is allowed to run forever (but receive no information as to what it's waiting on)
