I can still use this program with considerable success. |
good evening, im not dev or programmer
|
Thank you for your interest.
I have the latest version of nicotine+ available on the Debian repo.
what may be available for other Operating systems, is not useful to me.
I also have computers that run Windows and I use Soulseek ns on these
computers without any real issues.
I am slowly getting Windows out of my life and finding linux software that
can do the things that are important to me, quite successfully.
On my end, Nicotine+ allows me to download anything I want, also can browse
other users and I get whole directory (albums) downloads often at 500 kb
sec + and sometimes double that.
I would like to be able to share the 150,000 music files that I have, not
just the 28,000 files that will scan at the moment.
Hundreds of soulseek users are enjoying what I currently have to offer and
I leave Nicotine running for days at a time on my linux pc, which is not
really possible on my windows laptop due to overheating, not to mention
lack of hard drive space.
My pc dual boots Windows, Linux, but I very rarely run Windows these days
and for many reasons, I would not leave Windows running for days at a time.
Thanks again for trying to help but until a later version becomes available
on the Debian repo, I will continue to use 1.2.16
Thanks

After a little research I found an acceptable way to upgrade to nicotine + 1.4.1 |
I'm running Nicotine + 1.2.16 on Debian 9.0.4 linux 4.9.0.3 amd64 on x86_64
I had trouble sharing a large directory, so I broke it up and shared incrementally with some success.
Only files with vbr attribute will share, so two thirds or more of my files do not appear in my browse list.
Debugging shows mutagen.py is throwing an exception when it can't find the attribute, I can't remember which lines in the program are responsible, and don't want to rescan to find out, as it takes many hours to rescan my library (750gb).
Path: /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/pynicotine/metadata_mutagen.py (think it was line 52)
Another file in same path also error messages.
If anyone who can help is interested I will try to replicate errors and post debugging info.
Nicotine + is quite buggy, but it is still useable.
