We've started to write sync code. We should be able to finish off the merging code in the next few days, see here: https://github.com/stayradiated/Nitro-Sync

The most likely thing that will happen is that we're going to use Ubuntu One as a sync service. If that doesn't work out, we'll end up using our own servers. We could offer a Google Tasks import but we can't sync to Google Tasks as Nitro is far more advanced than Google Tasks.

But you can add support for Google Apps
Nitro is a good application for business!

Nitro Sync is going well. Video: https://vimeo.com/41411035
We still need support for Ubuntu One & Google Drive but it is almost finished!

A non-propietary backend would be nice too, for those of us who prefer free software. :) Up to now, Nitro has maintained itself free. :)

Any chance of davical support?

Not in 1.3, we want to quickly release sync so we stop annoying people (release next week?). Maybe in 1.4 because it's not really the same sort of thing as Dropbox and Ubuntu One.

Excellent! I'd love to ditch thunderbird and go back to claws.

Seeing how data is handled in the Ubuntu One version, could a git be made? I can't say I understand all of the code, but it seems syncronization if FS-based. Could that be possible? It may be faster to implement than CalDAV, but would not rely on a closed-source backend like the current two alternatives.

The original plan was to add FTP/SSH Support in as well but it will come in 1.4. The main reason is so we can keep people interested in Nitro (release often). It's completely possible to add in any normal FS backend.

Nitro Sync is going very well. Hopefully we will be able to release it in a couple of days.

It currently works with Dropbox and Ubuntu One.

Since it is ready for beta testing we have decided to open up the Issue tracker on the Nitro Sync repo.
