this is important for gyp building though so probably a big deal for 0.6 Windows users

I don't know, I think we've had exactly zero bug reports about it up until now. Maybe @TooTallNate can chime in.

That said, I'm not the one that does the windows releases around here so it's all good to me. :-)

It has been reported (#3822). We can't really "fix" this version, although I suppose we should just release 0.6.22.
