  1. buffer: use FastBuffer when fill is set to 0

ChALkeR authored and trivikr committed Jul 26, 2018
A large number of libraries seem to use Buffer.alloc(size, 0)
    instead of just Buffer.alloc(size).

We don't need to follow the "create unsafe buffer and fill it" path
(i.e. actually allocate and perform fill) in that situation, that is
    better handled by Uint8Array constructor.

    Buffer.alloc(size) and Buffer.alloc(size, 0) are equivalent, so
    use the same code path.

Not performing the zero-fill manually and having the underlying memory
allocator do it for us can improve speed and reduce the memory usage
for situations where Buffer.alloc(size, 0) is used.

  1. doc: fix http2stream.pushStream error doc

    ChALkeR committed Jun 23, 2018
The old error code `ERR_HTTP2_STREAM_CLOSED` was removed in commit
0babd18 (pull request #17406), and the
testcase for http2stream.pushStream was changed accordingly, but the
    documentation change was overlooked.

This commit fixes it and aligns the documentation with the testcase.

This is a part of the fixes hinted by #21470, which includes some tests
for error codes usage and documentation and enforces a stricter format.

  2. doc: update changelog with 9.x EOL

    ChALkeR committed Jun 30, 2018
This removes unsupported versions from the table, as those might confuse
    people, execially given the
      > Release versions displayed in **bold** text represent the most
      > recent actively supported release.
    remark below.

It was inconsistent to keep some of the EOL entries in the table while
removing others (v5.x, v7.x) -- this commit takes care of that.

Instead, release status is hinted in the branch list above, highlighting
two main branches -- Current and Active LTS.

Also update the link to the Release repo.

  1. errors: fix ERR_MISSING_DYNAMIC_INSTANTIATE_HOOK

ChALkeR authored and targos committed Jun 23, 2018
This restores a broken and erroneously removed error, which was
    accidentially renamed to ERR_MISSING_DYNAMIC_INTSTANTIATE_HOOK (notice
the "INTST" vs "INST") in 921fb84
(PR #16874) and then had documentation and implementation removed under
the old name in 6e1c25c (PR #18857),
    as it appeared unused.

This error code never worked or was documented under the mistyped name
ERR_MISSING_DYNAMIC_INTSTANTIATE_HOOK, so renaming it back to
    ERR_MISSING_DYNAMIC_INSTANTIATE_HOOK is a semver-patch fix.

  1. fs: drop duplicate API in promises mode

    ChALkeR committed May 6, 2018
This drops exporting duplicate methods that accept FileHandle as the
first argument (to mirror callback-based methods accepting 'fd').

Those methods were not adding actual value to the API because all of
those are already present as FileHandle methods, and they would
probably be confusing to the new users and making docs harder to read.

Also, the API was a bit inconsistent and lacked .close(handle).

  2. tools: add remark-lint configuration in .remarkrc

    ChALkeR committed Jul 14, 2016
Specifies the configuration for remark-lint, a markdown linter.

This configuration does not cause any warnings on any of the currently
    present *.md files (ignoring thirdparty).

It is useful not only for possible future tooling that would check the
markdown files syntax, but also as a configuration for editor plugins,
    e.g. linter-markdown for atom-linter.
