I'd like to start going beyond the core Mastodon feature set and start adding some things to help make social media less anxiety-inducing or addictive. I'm thinking of a set of "Wellness" options in Settings like:

  • disable all notifications (no badges or changing the favicon)
  • hide fav counts
  • hide boost counts
  • hide follower counts

Arguably though I should do #369 first since those are equally important and they already exist in Mastodon (hide boosts from the Home timeline, hide certain types of notifications).

More ideas:

  • grayscale mode (we can just get rid of the gray "offline" mode; it's a cute idea but distracting)
  • hide boosts from home timeline (already covered in filters, but we could list it here too)
  • hide fav/boost/follower notifications (ditto)

For a v1, I'm considering skipping any settings that can already be set elsewhere (e.g. home/notification filters). It would be tricky to implement settings that override other settings, and arguably it's confusing from the user's perspective.
