Error: ENOENT, open '/Users/jfrichner/package.json'

You're running npm start from your home directory, so it's trying to find a package.json file in your home directory. You need to run npm start from the location you installed ghost so it finds the package.json in the location you installed ghost.

@jfrichner sorry, this has nothing to do with npm itself. You'll need to find somewhere else to ask ghost-related questions
