Hey. :)

When programs allow, I prefer use an environment variable to specify a config file, and then use the config file to manage the program. For most of my experience with npm, this has worked fine.

I’m not sure when this started happening, but I just found out the following:

$ echo $NPM_USERCONFIG
/Users/amrogers/.config/npm/.npmrc

$ npm config get userconfig
/Users/amrogers/.npmrc

Running on OS X (10.9 “Mavericks”), with the following installation (via Homebrew):

$ npm --version
1.3.25

$ node --version
v0.10.24
Zearin

Still getting this error.

Current stats:

$ npm --version
1.4.15

$ node --version
v0.10.28
Zearin

Never mind. I’m an idiot.

I had set the env variable $NPM_USERCONFIG, but it needed to be $NPM_CONFIG_USERCONFIG.

May The Source™ Be With You!
