Does this lead to part feedback interrupting the content that focus has moved to, or vice versa? Maybe it's best not to have it as a live region.

The part feedback only gets read out if the feedback box is open, which I think is OK. So if you just enter an answer and move to the next part, the feedback isn't read out, matching the visual experience.
