On some web pages, NVDA does not read some buttons properly. These buttons are images which do in fact have Alt tags. Despite this, NVDA reads the URL rather than the associated Alt tag. A consistent example of this bug occurs on Amazon.com product detail pages, for example, http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Shoqbox-Bluetooth-Portable-SB7200/dp/B007PZYBTY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1340481237&sr=8-3&keywords=philips+shock+box

The add to cart button, which is located below the quantity dropdown box, is read as a URL. I have tested this with JAWS and found that it reads properly. Additionally I have examined the HTML code for the web page and found an Alt tag to be present for this button. SO far, I have only encountered this issue on some Amazon.com pages (all detail pages, but not necessarily all buttons on the page). The "add to shopping cart" button is consistently read incorrectly.

Hi, I've seen this happen on Images on the Hotmail Page and The Hotmail In-box also. Wair NVDA will just say Link Link.

Replying to mf723:

While NVDA doesn't properly read the button if you find it via moving through the page, using the move to next/previous form control does read the alt text after the URL has been announced. I agree that it's annoying to hear the URL first, though.

I think the only reason that this information is even announced is due to the following in the Changes file for 2011.2:

•When in browse mode and jumping to a control with quicknav or focus, the description of the control is now announced if it has one.

Maybe it'd be possible to announce these controls when simply navigating through the document regularly as well?

This is most likely specific to Hotmail itself; if the image doesn't have any alt text esotiated with it, obviously no description information will be given.

I was going to mention this as a regression, but I've not had time to check back when it started. On amazon it is indeed very annoying. I use IE on there and trying to find that button is often almost impossible nowadays. Strangely though some of these do work.

I cannot comment on the hotmail pages.
Let us get our buttons back!

This is due to a Firefox bug. I filed MozillaBug:786163.

this is happening for google chrome for www.ebay.com as it doesn't read the alt= messages when they show up as they are not coded properly on all their pages. Also for icons for social media, they are not getting read either, like facebook, instagram, google plus.
