Python 2.7.9 has been released. Aside from the fact that we should keep up to date with Python anyway, this also includes verification of https certificates by default using the system store, which would allow us to improve the security of updates. We should do this sooner rather than later so it can bake for a while.

Very nice. I was also going to suggest you switching to https.
I didn't realize til now that the certificates might be a problem.
