ec2_signer.pl & ec2_signer.py ----------------------------- ec2_signer is a simple script that signs EC2 API requests. It can also make those requests to endpoints and print the results, optionally piping the XML through xmllint to provide greater readability. It's particularly useful for manipulating the EC2 API directly, since it takes care of the signing part of the process but still exposes the raw results from the API server (including errors). This can be particularly helpful when working with non-Amazon EC2 API implementations like OpenStack Nova. The perl version uses Digest::SHA and URI::Escape to do it's dirty work, so you'll need those perl modules. Some command examples: Add a KeyPair named mykeypair: ec2_signer.pl Action=CreateKeyPair KeyName=newkeypair List Instances: ec2_signer.pl Action=DescribeInstances Associate Address with Instance: ec2_signer.pl Action=AssociateAddress PublicIp=1.1.1.1 InstanceId=xyz And example output: $ export EC2_URL="https://ec2.amazonaws.com/" $ export EC2_ACCESS_KEY="123456789" $ export EC2_SECRET_KEY="ABCDEFGHI" $ ./ec2_signer.pl -r -p Action=DescribeKeyPairs Command ------- curl "https://ec2.amazonaws.com/?AWSAccessKeyId=123456& Action=DescribeKeyPairs&SignatureMethod=HmacSHA256&SignatureVersion=2& Timestamp=2012-01-11T19%3A31%3A59.000Z&Version=2011-05-15&Signature=123456=" Response -------- <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <DescribeKeyPairsResponse xmlns="http://ec2.amazonaws.com/doc/2011-05-15/"> <requestId>12345-12345-123456</requestId> <keySet> <item> <keyName>mykeypair</keyName> <keyFingerprint>ab:cd:ef:gh:ig:ha</keyFingerprint> </item> </keySet> </DescribeKeyPairsResponse>
