currently no part_of

following BA1 (see #1146),
we could add
relationship: part_of UBERON:0000956 ! cerebral cortex

(or not...if we will avoid redundance UBERON:0013529
name: Brodmann area relationship: part_of UBERON:0000956 ! cerebral cortex)

Help welcome to connect BA's to more precise brain area, should we create new terms?

ISBN:978-0471210054 "Butler AB and Hodos W, Comparative vertebrate neuroanatomy: Evolution and Adaptation (2005) p.548 and 556"

"Traditionally, in anthropoid primates and prosimians, area S1 has been regarded as comprising Brodmann's areas 3a, 3b, 1, and 2. Because each of these areas contains a separate somatotopic map of the body, S1 is now considered to be coextensive only with area 3b. Preliminary evidence suggests that, in anthropoids and prosimians, both area 3a and area 3b are lemnopallial areas, whereas areas 1 and 2 are collopallial areas" p.556

"..somatosensory area 1...abbreviated as S1.." p.548

Note that UBERON:0013529 ! Brodmann area already has a part_of relationship to cerebral cortex

For S1 see

UBERON:0008933 ! primary somatosensory cortex [SYNONYM: "postcentral gyrus" (related)] [SYNONYM: "primary somatosensory area" (related)] [SYNONYM: "primary somatosensory cortex (area S1, areas 3,1,2)" (exact)] [SYNONYM: "S1" (broad)] [SYNONYM: "somatosensory area 1" (exact)]

(currently part_of parietal cortex - could be more specific ie parietal lobe)

What do you suggest here? One option is to regard 3a as a syn for S1, another is to be conservative and add a new 3a class, make it part of BA3. Either way I think we would need an overlaps relationship for S1
